Presentation of Peer Review in QUALES network in Lisbon

On September 12th 2014 Revalento has been invited by QUALES to do a presentation on the use of Peer Review in Continuous Vocational Education. In Lisbon representatives of the training Institutes for the Financial sector from different European Countries were meeting to present good practices on quality assurance for the Financial sector. A vision on QA for training standards for bankers was presented which focusses on:

  • Learning outcomes: knowledge, skills and competences as defined in EQF (European Qualifications Framework);
  • Division in learning units to make transfer of points possible as defined in ECVET (European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training);
  • Quality Assurance mechanism as defined in EQAVET (European Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training);
  • Formal independent assessments as a natural obligation to obtain any qualification;
  • Recognition of prior learning;
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) as a requirement to make lifelong learning an integral part of education and training.

Revalento presented the Peer Review methodology in combination with the use another tool: a self-assessment tool which supports EQAVET, the CQAF VET model. The contribution was considered very appropriate and useful. In the second part of the meeting participants explored future options for sharing expertise and to combine their experiences.


European Conference on Quality and training successfully held

The European Conference on “Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training: The role of training providers and trainers” held on 23rd of September at the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Athens, met great success from the audience.

The aim of the conference was to inform the governing bodies responsible for the provision of lifelong learning, as well as all categories of education personnel involved in adult education on:

  • issues and methodologies for quality assurance in Vocational Education and Training (VET)
  • Tools and Best Practices in Quality Assurance at European level
  • the innovative methodology «Peer Review» and the
  • role of Trainers in Continuing Vocational Education and Training.

Representatives of the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications & Vocational Guidance (E.O.P.P.E.P.), the Foundation of State Scholarships (Scholarships) as well as experts in quality attended the conference. European Quality Assurance best practices in the field of Lifelong Learning and how they can help providers of vocational education and training to improve their competitive advantage were presented during the conference. In parallel, the experience of implementing the Peer Review methodology in Europe was presented and the audience had the opportunity to comment upon the topics at the end of the speeches. Peer Review European Seminar/Final Event

"Dimitra" Training and Development Institute, National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications and Vocational Guidance (E.O.P.P.E.P.) and Training Network are organising a conference on "Policy for Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and training: the role of training providers and trainers", at the Cultural Centre in Athens in Tuesday, September 23rd. The governing bodies and services for lifelong learning, social institutions, and all categories of education personnel involved in adult education will have the opportunity to learn about:

  • issues and methodologies of quality assurance in VET
  • the innovative methodology for the evaluation of quality «Peer Review»
  • tools to be adopted by «Peer Review»

in order to fully understand the benefits and usefulness of a method that has been tested and already used in 15 countries. The final results of the project “Peer Review for EQAVET” will be presented at the conference.

The 4th transnational meeting of the Peer Review Project in Sweden

The fourth transnational meeting of the Peer Review project partnership will take place on 19-20 May in Uppsala, Sweden. During the meeting, representatives from France, Sweden, Poland, Bulgaria and Greece are going to discuss the already implemented activities in regards to the project progress.

In order to achieve the objectives of the project, the participating countries conducted pilot reviews of educational institutions from third party organizations. Therefore, the meeting takes place at a very crucial point for the development of the project as all countries have implemented the Peer Review pilots. The project aims to transfer and further develop the innovative and successful methodology and serve as a model for the integration of Peer Review in the national quality assurance systems in vocational education and training in five countries. Finally, the partnership will design the actions to be implemented in the next phase of the project in each country.

Peer Review training in Bulgaria

On 9th and 10th of March, 2014 Bulgarian Development Agency held a Peers and Facilitators Training Workshop under the project Peer Review for EQAVET in Sofia, Bulgaria. After receiving the invitation and information about the workshop, many experts in VET showed great interest and willingness to participate in the training, and 18 of them, including high school principals, teachers, and community center chairmen took part in the workshop.

 First, trainers Denitza Toptchiyska and Nina Getova introduced participants in the Peer Review procedure and Quality Areas, as well as its phases, basic principles, and advantages, and then started with detailed presentations of the phases followed by practical exercises, feedback and group discussions. Participants also had the chance to examine and apply the Peer Review tools during the training.
